Jambory Youth Dance and Percussion Group
Jambory is an Afro-Peruvian percussion and dance performing ensemble that has grown from the collaboration between Good Samaritan and Tradición Peruana Cultural Center. The purpose of Jambory is twofold: as youth learn new skills and gain exposure to Peruvian music and dance, they develop greater self-esteem and social skills. The instructors and directors of Jambory are accomplished performing artists Juan de Dios Soto and Lydia Soto. They work with youth three afternoons per week, teaching percussion technique on various instruments, dance choreographies and songs. The youth ensemble performs these compositions at community events and in the San Francisco Carnaval Parade.
