OUR PROGRAMS

PARENT SUPPORT GROUPS*

Parent Support Groups encourage Spanish-speakers to share their goals, frustrations, and needs in a safe, culturally-affirming learning environment. Led by a bilingual facilitator, weekly sessions focus on school readiness, healthy social-emotional development, the importance of self-care, connecting to local family-based and immigrant-focused services, biculturalism, positive discipline, cultivating a support network, addressing mental health challenges, and more.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE*

English as a Second Language courses allow adult students to bond with their peers, learn about community-based services for immigrants, as well as improve their ability to communicate in English.

PARENT/CHILD INTERACTIVE PROGRAMS

Parent/Child Interactive Programs allow parents or caregivers and their infants, toddlers, children or teens (as the case may be) to explore, bond, play and read together. Parents, organized into cohorts by the child’s age, engage with other parents, a facilitator, and their child in semester-long classes. Cohorts focus in-depth on one of these topics: parent-infant bonding, early childhood development, enhancing parent-teen relationships, strategies for surviving divorce/separation, and more.

PARENT LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Parent Leadership Programs encourage Latino parents to engage with their child’s teachers, schools, and allies to promote children’s school readiness, academic persistence and healthy development. In cohorts, parents learn together about school systems and how to advocate for their children.

PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEES

Parent Advisory Committees help guide the design of our new and continuing services and programs.

Making Participation Easier

Good Samaritan designs programs to have dual benefits for parent and child. Caregivers enrolled in our Parent Support Groups or our English as a Second Language program may cross-enroll their young children in Kids’ Club, a free school-readiness program. Scheduled at the same time, children and parents can each participate in what Good Samaritan has to offer.
